Charlie Kirk Day: A National Day of Remembrance Set by the Senate

On September 18, 2025, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution designating October 14, 2025—what would have been Charlie Kirk’s 32nd birthday—as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.

The resolution was introduced by Senator Rick Scott and received wide bipartisan support. In his remarks, Senator Scott praised Kirk as a devoted husband and father, a man of faith, and a committed defender of free speech and civic debate. He said that Kirk believed deeply in the power of discussion and maintaining constitutional principles.

While many lawmakers and citizens welcomed the resolution as a fitting tribute, the move has also sparked debate. Some critics argue that honouring controversial public figures should come with scrutiny of their viewpoints and public statements. Others emphasize that regardless of one’s political beliefs, condemning political violence and recognising public service are essential for national unity.

The resolution also encourages educational institutions, civic organizations, and citizens across the U.S. to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, or moments of reflection. It affirms the values Kirk championed—individual liberty, open debate, and civic participation—as core tenets to be upheld in American public life.

October 14 will serve not just as a remembrance of a life lost, but as a reminder of the fragility of free speech and the ongoing challenge of political violence. As communities prepare for this national day, the call is both to honour Kirk’s memory and to recommit to civil discourse in an age of polarization. Read More
